we.own.the.sky is a five-piece instrumental post-rock/progressive band from Athens, Greece. Since forming in late 2010, they have been crafting deeply emotional music that blends soaring melodies, crushing heaviness, and cinematic atmospheres. Rooted in the post-rock genre but never confined by it, the band incorporates elements of progressive metal, ambient, and electronic textures, forging a sound that is both expansive and emotionally resonant.
Their debut release, The Glass/Nails EP (2013), put the band on the international instrumental map, receiving widespread praise both in Greece and abroad. This early momentum led to live performances, both headlining and supporting renowned acts, in many shows in Greece.
In 2015, they released their first full-length album, Earths Collide, marking a shift toward a heavier, more experimental direction. The album was produced by the band's long-time collaborator Alex Ketenjian and mastered by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Katatonia, Soilwork).
Following a period of internal changes, the band returned in 2019 with 'Home' - an album that at the time constituted a bold statement and a shift in overall sound direction.. This was the first time the band handled production and mixing themselves; a step that enabled the band to fully realize their artistic vision. The album features a broader sonic palette, incorporating electronic elements, strings, and choir vocals, seamlessly blended with our signature sound. 'Home' was met with overwhelmingly positive reception, topping Where Post Rock Dwells’ Album of the Year list and earning critical acclaim for its fusion of melody, atmosphere, and intensity.
The band’s third full-length album ‘In Your Absence’ came out in September 2025. It is the band’s first to be released from renowned Belgian label dunk! Records. Being both their heaviest and most diverse album to date, ‘In Your Absence’ deals with loss and longing, as well as the path to healing and regaining hope. It is a record that stands firmly upon the band’s signature sound, while at the same time pushing it further to new terrain. Once again, the band themselves held production duties, with their own Dimitris Radis mixing it, while the mastering was done by Siopis Masters.
Throughout their career, the band has shared the stage with some of the most respected names in the genre, including Caspian, Long Distance Calling, Tides from Nebula, and Maybeshewill, while also performing at major Greek festivals such as New Long Fest, Desertfest, and Schoolwave Festival. The release of ‘In Your Absence’ saw we.own.the.sky embarking on a European tour in late 2025, while 2026 looks even more busy with the long-awaited band’s debut on the dunk!festival stage in Belgium and more appearances both in Greece and in Europe.
With over a decade of experience and an ever-evolving sound, the band continues to push boundaries, delivering music that is as powerful as it is deeply moving.
